Posted
The Scottsdale Police Department has arrested two men who both reportedly overdosed while partaking in illegal activity at Pawn First Friday morning.
Travis Stack, 22, and Joshua Bess, 27, are the two suspects, police officials say.
At 5:24 a.m. April 16, Scottsdale officers responded to an alarm call at Pawn First, 3116 N. Scottsdale Road.
Upon arrival, Mr. Stack was observed inside the business through the store window, officials said, and officers established a perimeter around the company. Mr. Stack was later observed on the roof of an adjacent business, and when confronted he retreated down into a fenced area on the property, police say.
Stack was heard communicating with Bess during this point, and both suspects refused to comply to exit the building, police say.
SWAT personnel responded and made initial contact with Mr. Bess inside a false wall of the building. Mr. Bess began to actively fight officers and was taken into custody, officials say.
Shortly after, Bess became unconscious and officers recognized systems of a possible overdose. Officers administered Narcan and Bess regained consciousness.
Inside the business, Mr. Stack was discovered unconscious. Officers administered Narcan and he also regained consciousness. Both suspects were transported to a local hospital.
Indicia of the burglary was discovered in a vehicle which Mr. Stack had previously taken without permission, police say.
This investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release at this time, officials say.
