Scottsdale deputy fire chief earns national award

The National Fire Protection Association has awarded Scottsdale Deputy Chief Jim Ford the James M. Shannon Advocacy Medal for his “significant contributions” in lessening losses from fire and other hazards.

The honor was named after a former NFPA president who ended his 12-year tenure in 2014 “with an exceptional record of advocacy to reduce fire loss.”

According to the NFPA, the award “recognizes fire and life safety advocates who have made significant contributions in lessening losses from fire, electrical and other hazards.”

The organization considers nominees who are members of the fire service or any individual or group whose advocacy efforts for such things as increased use of sprinklers meet the award’s criteria.
