Rotary club speaker talks ‘mind over matter’

Posted

Johanna Burton-Fuller, president of the Rotary Club of Sun City West, introduced professional colleague Jonnata Mata, certified hypnotherapist and emotional freedom technique practitioner, as the club’s speaker Aug. 7.

Ms. Mata, who is also a sports mental coach, began her presentation by explaining how she was introduced to emotional freedom techniques and hypnotherapy. Her father had died due to suicide and she was suffering from guilt, anxiety and depression. She was lost and could not seem to get her life back for several years. Emotional freedom techniques and hypnotherapy got her through the grief, sadness, anger and all the negative emotions that were causing her to have panic attacks and depression.

Ms. Mata shared that she attended her first few sessions with great reservation, as she was a dedicated non-believer. She slowly became more open to this process. It was EFT that convinced her that there was great therapeutic benefit. After practicing EFT for about a year, she noticed that many EFT practitioners were also hypnotherapists. Her test for hypnosis was to quit smoking, and it worked.

Ms. Mata demonstrated a brief exercise to show the power of mind over matter.
