Sun City residents pay $500 each year for the privilege to use the recreation facilities, including their own golf courses at rates averaging well below other courses in the nation.
Non-residents are only required to pay a premium of 13% to 30% more for the right to play 18 holes. I don’t believe outsiders should be allowed, except as a guest of a resident, and then with a limited number of rounds each year at a 50% premium. Any club formed that charges a membership (such as the Sun City community) does so to grant exclusive rights to their members. If the courses of our community cannot survive without outside play, then possibly we have too many courses. The board of directors has a duty to rule in the best interest of Sun City and not the outlying communities.
The suggestion to have a community police force needs to be taken seriously. The running of stop lights/signs is constant. Fifty-plus mph on Del Webb Boulevard and other 25/30 mph roads is common. Crime has increased and will get worse with the influx of illegals and other vagrants. Illegal drugs flow through here on a regular basis. If a police force can be funded for $50 per resident per year or less, it would be well spent. Unlike the county sheriff department, fines could be retained for their funding.
This community was meant to be a safe place to live with amenities for all residents. Without making changes now we will begin to look like our neighbors to the west.
