Three people were stabbed early Saturday morning at an Apache Junction bar, and a suspect led police on a chase that ended near Canyon Lake.

Apache Junction police received a call  at 1:23 a.m.  Saturday, July 23,  and responded to reports of  three people stabbed at Dog Run Saloon near Idaho Road and Superstition Boulevard.

The stabbing left three people injured.

Four people believed to be involved in the altercation fled in a vehicle before officers stopped them approximately one block away, police said.

When officers stopped the vehicle, three of the subjects were detained, but one person fled in the vehicle, dragging an officer a short distance.

Another officer fired at the suspect’s vehicle allowing the officer being dragged to release himself, according to authorities.

The officer was not injured.

The suspect continued to flee toward Canyon Lake, and the Mesa Police Department Air Unit and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.

"Near the lake, the suspect rammed one PSCO and one AJPD vehicle. PSCO units disabled the suspect’s vehicle and detained him," police stated in a release.

The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Weston James. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Charges are pending.

All three stabbing victims were transported to a hospital by Superstition Fire and Medical. Two of the victims were hospitalized in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon, police said.

The other victim left before hospital staff could assess their injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information  can contact Apache Junction Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 480-982-8260

The Arizona Department of Public Safety will investigate the use of an officer’s firearm, officials said.
