Police charge man in fight that injured 3 Mesa officers at Dutch Bros Coffee

A 21-year-old man has been arrested and faces multiple charges in connection with a fight that injured three Mesa police officers Saturday at a Dutch Bros Coffee.

Tegan Williams is begin held on a $100,000 bond on charges that include aggravated assault, resisting arrest and criminal damage, police said Sunday.

All three officers were taken to a hospital following a six-minute fight Saturday morning, March 11, at the Dutch Bros, 5503 S. Power Road, and one officer suffered broken bones during the altercation, police said.

Mesa police officers responded to the coffee shop about 8:45 a.m. Saturday after receiving a call that a man was causing a disturbance. He had left prior to police arriving but later returned.

Officers told him to leave the property, but he refused, police said.

“One officer displayed his taser to gain compliance, but Williams still refused to obey commands to leave the property,” Mesa police said in a release. “Officers then told Williams he was under arrest and began to take him into custody.”

The fight began.

Witnesses and body camera footage revealed that the suspect “grabbed and squeezed one officer’s hand so hard that it broke and will require surgery to repair,” the release stated.

Acccording to the release, Williams kicked another officer “who was seen to be unconscious.” A third officer had a hand injury that required medical evaluation and an X-ray.
