The AKC pet disaster relief trailer that was donated to the Arizona Humane Society has been deployed to Mesa to assist with evacuation efforts due to the Telegraph Fire.
AKC Reunite, a nonprofit pet identification and recovery service, joined forces with national and local dog organizations to donate the life-saving AKC pet disaster relief trailer to the Arizona Humane Society, according to a release.
The other organizations include Arizona Toy Dog Fanciers, Prescott Arizona Kennel Club, Coyote Classic Dog Shows, Sporting Dog Association of Arizona, Scottsdale Dog Fanciers Association, Cavalier King Charles Club of Central Arizona, Superstition Kennel Club, the English Setter Association of America and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America and individuals Mimi Brown, Bud Lake and Randy Brewer.
The trailer is stationed at Skyline High School, 845 S. Crismon Road in Mesa, and its supplies are being used to assist with animal sheltering efforts.
“The shelter at Skyline High School is open and prepared to care for dozens of pets. Some dogs and a parrot have already found sanctuary at this temporary shelter since the fire broke out. The AKC pet disaster relief trailers help to create a safe, temporary home-base for at least 65 pets during the first 72 hours after a disaster is declared,” the release states.
