Peoria police arrest suspect in sexual offense, burglary case
Posted
Peoria police have arrested a suspect in a sexual offense and burglary case.
Tips led officers to arrest Eniefiok Akpanikat, 22, at around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at his residence in the 9600 block of West Mission Lane, less than two miles from the crime scene.
The incident happened Wednesday morning at a residence near 95th and Olive avenues.
Peoria police said a woman was inside of her residence when she heard a knock at her front door. When she opened the door, a man was standing outside and told her he would walk her dogs for her. When she told him she did not have any dogs, he said he could babysit instead.
At this point, the male stepped into the house, grabbed the woman and committed a sexual offense, police said. As the victim screamed for help, another relative came from another room in the house. The male suspect then left the house and walked away from the area.
The relative obtained photographs of the suspect as he walked away from the scene.
Officers arrived and checked the area on foot, using a K-9 unit and a drone, police said. After an extensive search, officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Peoria detectives are investigating and believe the suspect may frequent the area where the crime occurred.
Police described the suspect as a heavyset black male, with curly black hair, a bushy beard, and a possible mark or skin discoloration on his right cheek next to his mouth. He was wearing a black t-shirt, dark pants, and tan boots. The suspect was also wearing very distinct eyeglasses that are pink in color.
