Man shot, injured in possible road rage incident in Peoria

Posted

Peoria police officers are investigating a shooting that could be a possible road rage incident.

Police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 91st Avenue and Happy Valley Road, 7 a.m., Oct. 20.

A caller believed this to be a possible road rage situation and that a male was shot and laying in the roadway.

The alleged shooter also called to report the incident and had pulled his vehicle south onto 91st Avenue to wait for officers.

Upon arrival, officers located a male in the driver's seat of a grey Dodge Charger, with a gunshot wound to his leg. A child passenger also sat in the Dodge.

Peoria Fire Medical personnel responded to the scene and later took the injured male to the hospital with non-life threating injures.

The child passenger in the Dodge was not injured and was turned over to a family member who responded to the scene.

A male driving a red Honda Civic who allegedly shot the other male was detained and not injured.

According to police, the driver of the red Honda pulled in front of the grey Dodge on Happy Valley Road at 91st Avenue and then stopped. The driver of the grey Dodge then exited his vehicle and approached the driver of the red Honda at the driver’s window.

Police said an altercation occurred at the window and at some point, the driver of the Honda shot the driver of the Dodge in the leg.

Police said this is an active investigation and detectives are still trying to determine exactly what occurred. At this time, no arrests have been made.

Arrests and/or charges will be determined after further investigation.

Eastbound Happy Valley Road was closed until around 10 a.m.

If anyone has additional information regarding this incident, they are encouraged to contact the Peoria Police Department, 623-773-8311.
