Peoria adds twist to 4th of July fireworks show
Annual festival, from cooking to fireworks, will be streamed online

The city of Peoria is hosting Fourth of July fireworks to celebrate Independence Day, but with a twist.
Fireworks will be lit off from three locations around town for the annual All-American Festival on Saturday, July 4. But to adhere to CDC guidelines preventing gatherings, residents will not be able to be on site, although the fireworks will be visible skyward around town, and also online.
“This year we will celebrate from the comfort and safety of our homes, but we will still celebrate,” Mayor Cathy Carlat stated in a news release. “As we all look toward the skies at the spectacular fireworks show, together we will honor our heritage and liberties as Americans.”
Now named the “All-American Festival at Home,” Peoria will expand the fireworks show to the three sites with a live online broadcast. This will be the largest 4th of July fireworks display in the Valley, according to the city of Peoria.
Additionally, festival activities like Home Hangouts, a BBQ cook-off, Patriotic Bike Parade, cannonball competition and special visits from Prickly Pete will be streamed live throughout the day via the city’s social media pages. Residents are encouraged to tune in and participate all day Saturday from the comfort of their homes, capping off their holiday with a 22-minute fireworks show at 9 p.m.
“This is such a cherished, popular Peoria tradition that we had to find a way to keep it going even amid a pandemic,” Peoria Arts and Events Manager Marylou Stephens stated. “This year we are bringing a day of fun and a spectacular fireworks show to you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home, surrounded by friends and family.”
