PCDS setter, Paradise Valley resident Lilly Robinson hits 2000 career assists

Posted

On Sept. 14, Phoenix Country Day School setter and 2020-2021 AIA 2A 1st Team All-Region Player, Lilly Robinson, hit a career record of 2000 assists, as PCDS Varsity Volleyball battled North Pointe Prep at home in Paradise Valley.

Announced halfway through the third set, Robinson’s achievement was met with balloons and cheers from her teammates and those in attendance. Adding to the excitement, the Eagles dominated the night; winning in straight sets (25-9, 25-5, 25-7) and picking up their seventh win of the season.

The celebration continued later in the week, as PCDS hosted the annual Desert Classic Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Eagles took to the court again, going 6-0 on the day and winning 12 straight sets; beating the reigning AIA 2A State Champions, Scottsdale Christian Academy in the finals to become 2021 Desert Classic Champions.

Robinson, a senior, along with freshmen Teraya “T” Sigler and Quincy Rodin, both outside hitters were named All-Tournament Players. Lead by senior captains, Robinson and Alex Goldstein (libero), as well as Sigler and Rodin, who are both members of the USAV 14 Open National Championship team, PCDS is on track to have their best season ever.

Along with a solid roster of veteran players, like Robinson and Goldstein — as well as fellow seniors Ella Cabbil (RS Hitter) and Ella Wilmink (Middle Blocker), and junior Defensive Specialists, Ellie Bartolino and Hannah Perlmutter — PCDS has gained three outstanding freshmen in Sigler and Rodin, and Middle Blocker, Mia Warner; building on the team’s depth and adding longevity going forward.

The team is 18-2 and undefeated in 2A conference play, and with half their season still ahead, Robinson is looking forward to adding to her record breaking career totals.

Editor’s Note: The submission is from Clarissa Robinson, Lilly’s mother, who chairs the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Directors group.
