No Arizona freeway closures over Thanksgiving weekend

Arizona drivers can be thankful for freeways free from road work for the holiday weekend.

The Arizona Department of Transportation plans no full construction or maintenance closures from Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 23, through early Monday, Nov. 27.

Due to anticipated heavier traffic conditions during peak travel times, including Wednesday and Sunday afternoons, drivers should allow extra time if possible and be prepared for unscheduled closures or lane restrictions due to crashes, disabled vehicles or other incidents, ADOT officials said.

Interstate 17 and State Route 87 north of  Phoenix as well as I-10 in areas between Tucson and California are among highways expected to be busy with holiday travelers, according to ADOT.
