New Popeyes drive-thru coming to south Glendale
Posted
A new Popeyes fried chicken restaurant is coming to downtown Glendale. The city’s Planning Commission approved the location when it gave special permission earlier this month for the restaurant to install a drive-thru.
The incoming fast food location, on a 0.8-acre site northwest of 59th and Northern Avenues, is the fourth Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen location in Glendale and the only one near downtown.
The restaurant will fill out a commercial lot that’s recently seen other recent development after sitting vacant. An AutoZone Auto Parts store is west of the Popeyes site, and to the east is a 3 Minute Car Wash and a Mountain America Credit Union on the corner of the intersection. Opposite the intersection of 59th and Northern is a large shopping center anchored by Lowe’s and Walmart.
One resident, Stella Greazzo, spoke at the Planning Commission meeting concerned the drive-thru traffic would back onto the road and slow traffic, as she claimed a nearby fast food restaurant did on Glendale Avenue. Interim Development Services Director Lisa Collins told Ms. Greazzo that the city’s traffic engineer examined Popeyes’ site plan and said it would not have overflow traffic backing onto the road.
The planned hours of operation will be 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
