New Queen Creek elementary school named

The school is named after famous local family

A new elementary school being built in Queen Creek will bear a familiar name.

The Queen Creek Unified School District announced the new school will be named Schnepf Elementary School. The move was made during a meeting of the QCUSD Governing Board, which approved the name unanimously,

“Naming our newest elementary school after the Schnepfs honors the family’s contributions to the community through public service, community development, business ownership, and charitable work,” said Dr. Perry Berry, QCUSD Superintendent.

Governing Board policy states schools can be named after historic landmarks, geographical landmarks or formations, vegetation indigenous to the site or proper names of an individual who has made significant or noteworthy contributions to the district and or its community. The Schnepf Family has farmed in Queen Creek for more than 70 years. In addition, the school is being built on what used to be Schnepf farmland.

Schnepf Elementary School will be a STEAM-focused (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Leader in Me school that serves students in grades preschool through sixth. The school is being built in the Harvest at Queen Creek subdivision near Gary and Riggs Roads.

It will open in July 2021. For more information on the school, visit To learn schnepfelementary.com.
