Valley Vista's Givens twins shine on return to track

Posted

Track and field meets are slowly returning and Valley Vista twins Trenton and Tyson Givens are standing out before their senior year starts.

In two meets, both have set new personal records and broken the school records multiple times in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

On June 14, Trenton Givens shattered the school record in the Desert Last Hurrah race in Florence, earning first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.65. It is a personal best for Trenton, though not official due to the wind.

Then on July 12 at the West Coast AAU Junior Olympic Games in North Las Vegas, Nevada, Trenton Givens placed second in the 110-meter hurdles. Trenton Givens finished in a time of 14.81, behind Leonard Mustrai of Fort Myers, Florida the nation’s No. 1 ranked hurdler.

In the abbreviated Valley Vista track season this spring, Tyson Given edged his twin brother for the best times on the team.

During the school shutdown, the twins continued work outs with Valley Vista track coaches. According to Valley Vista school counselor Steven Trezzo, Trenton and Tyson have 3.944 and 4.25 GPA's respectively.
