Meet Your Neighbor: Swanson goes ‘One Step Beyond’

Posted

Your Name: Jeff Swanson

Age: 41

Business Name: One Step Beyond, Inc.

Town/Neighborhood: Glendale, Peoria, Scottsdale and Surprise

Hours of operation: Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Personal background highlights: Native Arizonan, husband of one and father of two boys, proud double alumni and former student athlete of The Grand Canyon University.

Professional background highlights: Fundraising professional to support the incredible mission, vision and most importantly people who are served by One Step Beyond.

What I do: I lead Arizona development and communications at One Step Beyond.

What I like most about doing business here: It’s the only community I know, and its special!

Changes I’d like to see in this area: If I’m being selfish for One Step Beyond, I’d like to see less hiring challenges, we are always hiring for positions across all four campuses, please visit www.osbi.org for additional details, oh, and I’d also like to see additional donors, either individual, corporate or people taking advantage of the incredible Arizona Charitable Tax opportunity.

What am I promoting: Hiring, we need employees across all functions of the organization, please visit www.osbi.org for details (there is a link under the join our team tab on the top).

What I’m excited about and why: Supporting future organizational needs and growth to serve the individuals (and families) here at One Step Beyond.

Favorite community cause and why: Clearly, One Step Beyond…including individuals who have intellectual disabilities is a must in all aspects of our community, through life skills training, recreational and performing arts activities, and Vocational connections, One Step Beyond provides a much-needed service.

When and why I started my business/employment here: I started with One Step Beyond in March 2018 --- the nonprofit world is a passion to serve others, first.

Where was before and why I left: I spent 12+ seasons in the front office for the Arizona Diamondbacks, had a great run, life dictated a change.

My family: Happily married to my best friend Melissa, have two boys Kayden, 11, and Noah, 7.

My interests & hobbies: Youth sports coaching, anything outdoors, mopping floors for my wife.

People who inspire me (and how): My dad was my role model, he spent 37 years in public school administration (all at the same school). From an athletics standpoint, I was a huge Nolan Ryan fan/admirer.

My guiding philosophy: Golden rule, do unto others as they would do unto you and as a leader, utilizing servant leadership (others' needs come before your own).

My advice to today’s youth: First, Learn to give your word, and keep it, anyway you know how (and sometimes ways you might not know) … Secondly, don’t hide behind technology, learn to shake hands and interact with people in a positive and genuine way.

Jeff Swanson,
