Meet Your Neighbor: Justin Rowe helps keep Queen Creek’s streets and roads clear

Posted

Monsoon season is upon us and that means monster dust storms, powerful winds and lots of rain.

Valley residents also know the monsoons can damage buildings, homes’ roofs and knock down trees or heavy palm fronds.

But most residents don’t give much thought about the city employees who work hard to keep roads clear after such storms. They’re out early in the mornings or even in the evenings to clean up the storm debris that can not only damage vehicles, but also potentially cause deadly accidents.

The town of Queen Creek would like you to meet one of their employees tasked with keeping roads clear and being a good neighbor.

Name: Justin Rowe

Age: 28

Town/neighborhood: Live and work in Queen Creek

When and why I moved here: My family moved here when I was 4 years old for their work. I loved growing up here and now I’m raising my family here.

What I like most about living here: The town has grown a lot since I moved here, but it still feels like a close-knit community

What I do: I’m a maintenance and operations lead for the town of Queen Creek – I oversee a streets crew and projects for the town

What I like most about what I do: Every day is different, and I get to see the impact of the work that we do. For example, we are responsible for clearing roadway debris. With the monsoons coming up, we will be ready to respond 24/7 to remove downed trees, check spillways and make sure roads are safe and passable.

Changes I'd like to see in this area: Continue to improve our roadway system. In just the last few years, the number of roads that flood during storms has really decreased. That helps the community and makes it easier on the streets team. And, as the town grows, find ways to keep that close-knit feeling that I enjoy about the community I live and work in.

My family: My family is my world! My wife and I have a 3-year-old son, a 6-year-old daughter and another one due any day.

My interests and hobbies: I love being outdoors. As a family, we go camping and I’m in a competitive cornhole league

The trait(s) I admire in others: Hard work, honesty and respect

People who inspired me (and how): There are two: My dad because he is a very hard worker and my best friend’s dad because he helped me gain the skills I needed for my career.

My guiding philosophy: Work hard to ensure I am bettering the community and doing what’s best for my family
