Mary Wojcik, aged 97, of Sun City, Arizona died on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at her home of natural causes. She was born on August 14, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Constantine and Clara Valvo, the fourth of six children. Mary married Edward Wojcik of Chicago, Illinois on October 25, 1944 in Tijuana, Mexico while he was in service in the Officer Training Corps program of the U. S. Navy. She lived in Chicago and later Park Ridge Illinois until 1984 when she and Ed moved to Sun City. Mary was a regular bridge player; hiked for many years; water walked for even more; and loved to travel, going with Ed on annual trips both near and far. Mary is survived by three children (Ronald and Jeffri Lynn of Frankfort, Illinois; Nancy and James Dick of Vail, Arizona; and Pamela of Sun City, Arizona), eight grandchildren (Ronald Jr., Benjamin, Douglas, Allison Long, Audrey, Zelda, Holly Bertelsen, Kenneth Dick) and an additional eight great-grandchildren. Mary was remembered and her life celebrated during a Vigil service at Best Funeral Homes in Peoria, Arizona on January 9, 2023. Her ashes will be privately interred in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Cave Creek Road in Phoenix with her beloved Edward. Mary Wojcik’s life was her family and home. She made everyone feel welcome. She was a special woman who will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, including her water walking friends who affectionately referred to her as “Mom.”
