Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes hosts Town Hall discussion

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes is hosting a Town Hall meeting Tuesday afternoon as part of the Roundtable Project.

The topic is New Laws and Administration. This includes the new laws passed by the 54th Legislature that will effect voters and the new shared management structure of the Election Department between the Board of Supervisors and the County Recorder.

“The Roundtable Project keeps an open line of communication between communities that have historically experienced barriers to access and our office," Mr. Fontes stated in a release. "The Community Relations Team runs the Roundtable Project as part of our larger mission of increasing accessibility and transparency."

The Town Hall will consist of two panel discussions. The first will have a representative from each Roundtable group present on key findings brought up at their meeting, and then field audience questions. The second panel will be Maricopa County Recorder’s Office and Election Department staff.

Panel #1:

  • Karina Ruiz, Arizona Dream Act Coalition, representing the Hispanic American Roundtable
  • Justin Heywood, Director of Civic Engagement from the Arizona State University Student Government, representing the College/University Roundtable
  • Roy Tatem, President of the East Valley NAACP, representing the African American Roundtable
  • Renaldo Fowler, Senior Staff Advocate from the Arizona Center for Disability Law, representing the Disability Advocates Roundtable
  • Patty Ferguson-Bohnee, Clinical Professor of Law, Faculty Director of the Indian Legal Program, and Director of the Indian Legal Clinic at Arizona State University, representing the Native American Roundtable
  • Genevieve Siri, Arizona Lao Community, representing the Asian American/ Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander Roundtable

Panel #2:

  • Keely Varvel, Chief Deputy Recorder
  • Scott Jarrett, Director of Election Day and Emergency Voting
  • Kristi Passarelli, Assistant Director of Elections Services and Tabulations
