Man charged with 1st-degree murder in Mesa business owner killing

A 65-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the slaying of a Mesa business owner, Mesa police said Saturday.

Lynell Brosier has been booked into jail on several charges, including first-degree murder and armed robbery, police said.

Jesus Fabian De La Rosa, 58, owner of Lamb’s Shoe Repair, 28 S. Macdonald, was found dead about 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6, by a customer who phoned police, according to a release.

During an investigation, police found De La Rosa made a police report on Dec. 1 about a stolen .380-caliber handgun. He told officers that he allowed a “unhoused” man to use the restroom at his business occasionally and “thought he may have stolen the gun,” police said.

When he was found, the victim still had the holster, but the weapon was missing.

Officers found fired cartridges in the store that matched the stolen gun and the gun De La Rosa had been wearing, the release stated.

Witnesses told police a man wearing “unique clothing” had been in the area, and officers viewed light rail surveillance video to see the suspect get off and on at Country Club Drive and Main Street, according to authorities.

Police had learned that the victim’s cell phone was missing and, using data from the phone, traced it from Mesa to Phoenix where they found the suspect at the Central Arizona Shelter Services.

Brosier was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9. Police said he had De La Rosa’s .380-caliber handgun in his waistband.
