Lifelong Learning Club delays fall classes in Sun City

Fairway Readers also adjust plans

Sun City learners will have to wait to get back into the swing of classes.

The Lifelong Learning Club was due to start its fall semester of classes in September. But club leaders decided to cancel the first semester with hopes of picking back up after the first of the year, according to Yasmina Snider, club president.

“As everyone knows and understands, the COVID-19 pandemic has not waned,” Ms. Snider stated in an email. “Because our members are in a high risk group, the number of cases in Arizona is not declining and physical distancing cannot be practiced for registration and classes, the executive board of the Lifelong Learning Club decided to cancel the fall semester.”

The club offers a series of classes taught by residents and others with an expertise in the subject. The club is open to Recreation Centers of Sun City cardholders.

“We are hoping to resume with the spring semester,” Ms. Snider stated.

Another group, the Fairway Readers, altered its schedule due to the coronavirus. The group will not meet in July for its monthly discussion. But no decisions were yet made on further monthly discussions or its fall semester of sessions, according to Sue Blechl, club president.

The Fairway Readers gather to discussion books members read. The group did try an online meeting in April and, according to member Suzy Hallock-Bannigan, it went well. There has been discussion about members continuing to write reviews and share them among the membership.
