John (Jack) T. Fehlandt

Posted
John (Jack) T. Fehlandt was born November 18, 1934 in Chicago, IL and passed away peacefully in Arizona on Sunday October 23, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. Jack served in the US Army for a number of years and spent time in Japan where his daughter Annina (Fehlandt) Pope was born. Jack married Patricia McGowan on February 7, 1976 and helped raise her three young children: Vicki (Husfield) Dalka (Ed), Bill Husfield (Alyssa), James O’Brien (Deanna). Today they have 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Jack always had a smile for everyone and a generous spirit which led to Heart-based relationships with other folks who needed an extra loving hand. Gale (Goodfriend)Taylor (Mike) came into their lives thru the Promiseland Child Care Ministry at Willow Creek Church with her 1 year old triplets, plus their little sister 5 years later, and now those children are in their 20s and treasure Jack + Pat as grandparents. They also bonded with Vicki’s friend Shawna Halvorsen-Fichter and she lived in their house while they stayed in Arizona for many years. While in Illinois, Jack got involved in local politics in Villa Park, then in the Village of Streamwood where he volunteered on the Plan Commission, Zoning Board, Veterans Memorial commission, and was elected to the Board of Trustees as well as Village President (Mayor) for four years while working his full-time job in Chicago in the Banking industry. He and Pat were members of Willow Creek Church and he volunteered in Promiseland for 25 years, as well as the Finance Ministry and Video Production Team. In 1992 Jack trained to become a Home Inspector and started his own business - Mr. Perfection Home Inspections. He loved this new career and the people he met and educated about the biggest purchase of their lives. Even when he stopped climbing on roofs and doing the actual work for 20 years, he taught at a school training new Home Inspectors. After living in IL for much of his life, he and Pat moved full time to Arizona in 2016 to enjoy the Sunshine and Retirement Lifestyle in the original Sun City. They loved to travel and enjoyed using Time Shares, and along the way he discovered the joy and beauty of Hot Air Ballooning. They attended Balloon Festivals and Jack volunteered as part of any crew that would allow, and took dozens of rides himself. He loved to take friends and family on their first Balloon ride so they could share his joy. He was a great believer in Jesus Christ and shared his faith by living it out any way possible. Jack will be missed, especially his smile. Services will be held at Grace Bible Church, 19280 North 99th Avenue in Sun City on Thursday November 3rd at 2:00pm followed by light refreshments.
