Jacquelynn “Jacque” Mills

Posted

Jacque died on May 4, 2021, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s and Scleroderma. She was born on January 8, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1952, she graduated from New Carlisle High School and was honored as the first female to receive honors in mathematics. After graduation, she served for three years in the United State Air Force as a radar technician.
While in high school, she worked as a messenger and mail carrier for Indiana Bell Telephone. Upon discharge from the Air Force, she returned to Indiana Bell and later transferred to Michigan Bell Telephone Company. She moved into computer programming and as a computer analyst became the supervisor of that department. In later years, she worked very closely with one of the vice presidents of Michigan Bell. After 35 years with the Company, Jacque retired in 1986.
In 1994, Jacque moved from Michigan to Sun City, Arizona, where she became involved in various volunteer activities: Habitat for Humanity with the Women’s Build Project, the Scleroderma Foundation, Benevilla, Sun City Posse and Sun City Meals on Wheels. She was also a caregiver to a multitude of friends in Sun City. She was always generous with her time and talent.
Jacque was an avid reader and had a curious mind, gaining knowledge that enabled her to often answer questions asked by others. She had a good ear for inquiring and listening to others also. She loved animals and all wildlife both as a youngster and in her later years. She enjoyed horseback riding, feeding quail, birds, squirrels and rabbits – even rescuing feral cats from coyotes. One of her loves was playing pool with the club at Lakeview Recreation Center, gathering with friends to share food, cocktails, laughter and knowledge.
She is survived by her partner of 45 years, Judy Cicotte; sister, Nancy (Mills) Glon (John); brother, Robert P. Voelker (Tina); sister, Kathryn E. Sexton (Scotty); sister, Moira K. Somers; step siblings: Bridget, Cecilia and Jeff; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceding her in death were her mother Wilma (Mills) Voelker; father W. Joe Mills; sister, Mary Ann Snelson; brother, J. Michael Mills.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sun City Meals on Wheels, 10404 W. Coggins Dr., Sun City, AZ 85351.
