Herbert Duane Riell

Herbert, 81, of Peoria, AZ, passed away at home on September 24, 2019. He was the beloved soulmate to Diane Barr, with whom he shared a home.

Herb was born on August 16, 1938 in Glendale, CA. Soon thereafter, he moved to Globe, AZ. Herb was a graduate of Globe High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Glendale Community College.

Herb joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1958. He served 4 years in active duty and 2 years in reserves. He worked as an electrician for Arizona Public Service for close to 40 years. Herb was a longtime active member of the Congregational Church of Sun City, volunteering for a variety of activities and serving as a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons. He was also a proud Freemason and Shriner. In recent years, he was an active member of the Westside Tremble Clefs, a local group affiliated with the Parkinson Network of Arizona and part of a nationwide music therapy program for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Herb was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Bonita L. Sanders, in 2014. He was also predeceased by his mother, Kathryn Riell Bray and step-father, Lee Bray. Herb is survived by a half-sister, Dorothy Faye Thompson; son, Christopher Duane Riell; daughter, Rita Melissa North (Missy); step-daughter, Sharon Miller; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 5th at the Congregational Church of Sun City, 18401 N. 99th Ave., Sun City, AZ.

The family requests that memorial contributions go to the Congregational Church of Sun City or the American Parkinson Disease Association - Arizona Chapter.
