Goodyear is currently taking applications from residents to fill a spot on the city council left vacant following the death of the city’s mayor.

If appointed, applicants cannot hold any other elected office or any other “incompatible public office,” according to the city’s website. Applicants are also expected to submit a resume and other supporting documents.

The exact process for appointing the new councilmember will be decided at a Jan. 10 council meeting, a city spokesperson told the Independent, but stated applicants will be interviewed by the council.

Two applications were filed as of Dec. 29.

The appointment term expires Dec. 31, 2022, and will be up for election on Aug. 2, 2022.

The spot on the seven-member council was left vacant after Joe Pizzillo relinquished his seat on the council to take over for Georgia Lord following her death on Dec. 12.

Pizzillo was sworn in as mayor Dec. 17 after a unanimous vote from fellow city councilmembers.

Those interested in applying can click here for more information, or here to print an application.

All materials must be submitted to city hall at 190 N. Litchfield Rd. by Jan. 31, 2022 at 5 p.m.
