A murder suspect is behind bars after Glendale police officers made an arrest in relation to a Sept. 28 shooting.
Jaytavyonne “Jay Loco” Garrett, 26, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Oct. 14, on one count of second degree murder, one count of prohibited possessor weapons violation, and one count of misdemeanor criminal damage charges.
Detectives located the suspect who allegedly attempted to evade arrest, according to police, before he was ultimately apprehended after apparently hiding inside an apartment at a neighboring complex to the original shooting scene in the area of 6500 W. Ocotillo Road.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, Glendale police responded to a ShotSpotter activation. When officers arrived on scene and located an adult male victim in the southwest portion of the complex they immediately began lifesaving treatment for the gunshot wounds until the scene was safe for Glendale Fire to take over medical treatment.
The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. The 31-year-old victim was identified as Coylee Willis, according to police.
Investigators say that Mr. Willis was in the parking lot when the suspect approached him. The two were involved in an altercation when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim.
