Glendale Firefighter Kyle Knight and Glendale Officer Ty Nowatzki were honored Tuesday with a life safety award after they saved two men from the second floor of a burning apartment building near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in September.

In the early morning of Saturday, Sept. 7 a fire broke out in an apartment complex near 60th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. The apartment complex was quickly engulfed in flames. Fire raged through two stories and four apartments, one of which had two men trapped inside.

After the initial rescue of those men, Mr. Nowatzki continued to evacuate apartments and saved countless lives. Mr. Knight returned to the firefight where he and his crew were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading further. Thanks to these men and the other firefighters on scene no one was injured.
