Semester to open with online, in-person, hybrid class offerings

Posted

Glendale Community College fall semester classes begin Saturday, Aug. 22, at the main and north campuses at 6000 W. Olive Ave. and 5727 W. Happy Valley Road, respectively.

However, fall 2020 will look substantially different than previous years. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maricopa County Community Colleges are adjusting instructional methods and on-campus protocols.

GCC is following guidelines set by Maricopa Community Colleges, the state of Arizona, and the CDC. Within these guidelines, there will be four ways for students to learn: online learning, live online, hybrid, and traditional in-person.

Online classes will be held online without a set time to attend. All coursework, learning activities, and assignments will be done online, and the instructor will be available when questions arise.

Live online classes will meet online on specific days and times. Students interact with the instructor and classmates in a virtual environment. Access to a computer or mobile device with Internet connection is required. There will also be assignments due outside of class sessions.

Hybrid courses will have set online sessions and in-person/live online sessions as well as assignments during the week. The face-to-face class times are listed in the class schedule. The other part will be held online without a set time to attend

In-person classes will be taught in the traditional format with class times listed in the schedule. There will be a limited number of in-person classes including CTE and Labs.

To ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff, everyone visiting GCC campuses will need to wear facial covering. Masks will be provided to visitors who do not have one. Classrooms and high traffic areas are being cleaned and disinfected with increased frequently and procedures to ensure social distancing are in place.

For students who do not have access to a laptop for online classes, the college is distributing Chromebooks for students to borrow for the semester.
