Take part in recognizing the Glendale library’s 100 years with a Centennial Celebration kickoff next month.
The “Glendale 100” party begins at noon on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the main library, 5959 W. Brown St. The series of special programming will focus on the history of libraries in the United States, as well as Arizona heritage.
From September through May the library system will feature children’s programs, adult lectures, artistry workshops for all ages, a reading program for children and teens and more.
The Sept. 10 event will feature: Enjoy a talk about the city and library history from city officials (1 p.m.); tall tales, cowboy poetry, and music from Singing Cowboy Gary Sprague and his horse Dusty (1:30 p.m.); bluegrass from Cisco and the Racecars (2:30 p.m.); and Ballet Folklorico Esperanza (3 p.m.).
The day also will include a musical instrument petting zoo and a scavenger hunt inside the library.
This program takes place in partnership with Special Events and LiVE! @ Murphy Park and is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
