Former Scottsdale mayor endorses LD4 candidate

Former Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane has endorsed Republican candidate Matt Gress for the Arizona House of Representatives in Legislative District 4.

“When I took office in 2009, we were in a recession. Through hard work, dedication, and collaboration, our local economy was able to recover. Now that Joe Biden has severely damaged our economy, I can’t think of a better fiscal hawk and budget expert to overcome Democrat induced obstacles than Matt Gress,” Lane said in a prepared statement. “Matt is more than a fighter and fresh conservative voice; he’s a leader. Matt Gress will stand with our community and make Arizona’s economy an extension of our values: resilient, strong and conservative. I’m proud to endorse Matt Gress for the Arizona State House.”

Mayor Lane served 12 years as Scottsdale’s chief public servant. As mayor he led Scottsdale through the Great Recession, implemented charter reforms to improve local government, and worked with the community to establish the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

Lane also served the region and state during his entire mayoral tenure as a member of the Maricopa Association of Governments, where he influenced regional economic development and transportation projects, and the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, where he represented metro areas on water resource and distribution matters, according to a press release.

“I am honored to receive Mayor Jim Lane’s endorsement. Mayor Lane is an outspoken, experienced, dignified fiscal conservative with a legendary reputation. He has always stood for what people want in government: responsiveness, transparency, and accountability. I have always admired Mayor Lane’s unrelenting dedication to civic service and unwavering support for our community. Just as he isn’t someone to break promises, I promise to lead as he has led. I will always put my constituency and community first,” Gress said.
