Donors sought for June 10 blood drive in Mesa

A blood drive will be held 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 10, at the parking lot at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St. in Mesa.

“We still have a lot of availability left if you are interested in donating blood. The blood banks are critically low and need our help,” Hilary Samples of Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery said in a release. “If you know of anyone that would like to donate please feel free to share this link with them. Thank you for your support and most of all helping someone in need.”

Make an appointment with Vitalant at bloodhero.com/index.cfm?group=op&expand=977598&zc=85207.

There are two types of donations, according to the website:

  • During a whole blood donation, approximately 500 ml of blood is collected from a donor. It is then later separated into components (such as red cells, plasma and platelets) for patient transfusion.
  • A double red cell donation — also called a Power Red or 2RBC donation — occurs when a donor gives two units of red blood cells (approximately 350 ml — twice as many red cells as in a whole blood donation). This is done during a process called apheresis that returns other components (platelets and plasma) to the donor.
