Goalie Darcy Kuemper was the only Coyote selected to the All-Star game but may have to miss the game as he recovers from a lower-body injury.
It's the first All-Star selection for the 29-year-old Canadian who's in his third season with the Coyotes. He joins Mike Smith (2017), Sean Burke ('01, '02) and Nikolai Khabibulin ('98, '99) as the only Coyote goaltenders to receive the honor.
It's still remains to be seen whether Kuemper will recover from his injury, sustained Dec. 19, to play in the All-Star Game Saturday, Jan. 25 in St. Louis. Kuemper practiced lighlty over the weekend suggesting he could be nearing a return, but his timetable is still uncertain.
The Pacific Division's other top goalie is already a scratch for the All-Star Game. Vegas' Marc-Andre Fleury opted to skip the game to rest. Vancouver's Jacob Markstrom replaced Fleury on the roster. Another goalie replacement would be needed if Kuemper ends up missing the game.
Kuemper's record in the net is 15-8-2 including two shutouts. He ranks fifth in the league in Goals Against Average (2.17), eighth in save percentage (.929) and leads the league in Goals Saved Above Average (15.84).
Coyotes center Clayton Keller is on the Last Man In ballot and would make the roster if voted in. Visit here to vote through Friday, Jan. 10. Keller was an All-Star last year.
