The Grammy-winning Phoenix Chorale presents “A Chorale Christmas,” Dec. 13-17, and leading the concerts will be special guest conductor, Dr. André J. Thomas, making his debut appearance with the ensemble.

“A Chorale Christmas” brings together beloved favorites, new classics, sing-alongs, and more with performances across the Valley in Sun City, Phoenix, and Paradise Valley.

The Phoenix Chorale will also return to its newest venue in Scottsdale, La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church, according to a press release with performances of A Chorale Christmas  Dec. 13-17 in north Scottsdale.

Local shows are 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 at La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church, 6300 E. Bell Road in Scottsdale; and 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16 at Camelback Bible Church, 3900 E. Stanford Dr. in Paradise Valley.

“A Chorale Christmas” includes uplifting pieces by Stephen Paulus; “The First Nowell” and “Jesu Carols,” cherished favorites; “Ding! Dong! Merrily on High” and “O Holy Night,” as well as rousing Gospel pieces; “Glory, Glory, Glory to the New Born King” and “Go Where I Send Thee.”

Also highlighting the concert, will be the annual tradition of an audience sing-along to “bring the holiday spirit to everyone,” the release said.

The Phoenix Chorale welcomes special guest conductor, Dr. Thomas, a conductor, composer, and clinician, who has been featured as a guest conductor with orchestras and choirs around the world including England’s Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony, China’s People’s Liberation Orchestra, and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra; and international choirs including the Berlin Radio Choir and Netherlands Radio Choir.

In demand as a clinician and choral adjudicator, Dr. Thomas has worked with World Youth Choirs in the Republic of China, the Philippines, and in Europe. He has worked with Honor and All-State Choirs throughout the U.S. and in Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.

He has also distinguished himself as a composer and arranger and his music has been performed by choirs around the world, including the Phoenix Chorale.

Recently retired from his post as the director of choral activities and professor of choral music education at Florida State University, he currently serves on the board of directors for ACDA and he has also served as artistic director of the Tallahassee Community Chorus since 1988.
