Chandler principal honored during surprise assembly

Rice Elementary School Principal Shirley Mathew was honored in a May 16 surprise campus event.
Steve Watson, Maricopa County School Superintendent, presented Mathew with the Exemplary Principal Award. Watson is recognizing leaders who understand the connection between a thriving school culture and high levels of student achievement and teacher retention.
Award recipients are chosen through an evaluation that involves a superintendent nomination, application, teacher survey, video interview, site visit and extensive data review.
