Cardinals QB Kyler Murray wins AP Offensive Rookie of the Year

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award during the NFL Honors award ceremony Saturday night in Miami, the night before the Super Bowl.

Murray received 26.5 votes for the award, beating out Raiders running back Josh Jacobs (13 votes), Titans reciever A.J. Brown (9.5) and Eagles running back Miles Sanders (1). 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa won the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Murray is the third Cardinal to win the award and the first Cardinals quarterback. Receiver Anquan Boldin won the award in 2003, and running back Ottis Anderson won it in 1979 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. Defensive end Simeon Rice is the lone Cardinal to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, earning the honor in 1996.

Murray led the Cardinals to five wins and one tie, a last place finish in the game's toughest division -- the NFC West. The offense under Murray and rookie coach Kliff Kingsbury showed major improvement, from dead last in 2018 to a mid-tier offense in 2019.

The first-overall pick out of Oklahoma led all rookie quarterbacks in passing yards (3,722), passing touchdowns (20), rushing yards (544) and rushing touchdowns (4).

Jacobs led all rookies with 1,150 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, alongside 166 receiving yards. Brown led all rookies with 1,051 receiving yards and tied for the lead with eight receiving touchdowns. Sanders, who came on late in 2019, had 818 rushing yards, 509 receiving yards and six combined touchdowns.
