Buckeye’s annual Memorial Day salute to America’s fallen will be held in person Monday, May 31, at Louis B. Hazelton Memorial Cemetery.
Representatives from Buckeye Fire and Medical Rescue and Buckeye Police Department will serve as color guard for the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. at the cemetery, 23100 W. Broadway Road in Buckeye.
City Public Works Director Scott W. Lowe, a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander, will give the keynote speech.
Other highlights will include a history of the cemetery, and the service men and women interred there since the Spanish American war, participation by the Naval Seal Cadets and patriotic music.
The event is a collaborative effort by the Buckeye Patriotic Committee, which includes members from the city of Buckeye, the American Legion, Buckeye Elks Lodge, Daughters of the American Revolution and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
This is an outdoor event with social distancing guidelines in place. Last year’s ceremony was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
