Bicyclist killed in El Mirage collision involving Valley Metro bus

Posted

A 34-year-old man is dead after being struck by a Valley Metro bus in El Mirage.

The incident happened before 6:30 a.m. Friday near Grand Avenue and Greenway Road.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a bicyclist was crossing the intersection and failed to yield to the right-of-way when a Valley Metro bus, which had the right-of-way, struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist, a 34-year-old male from Tucson, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The eastbound and westbound right turn lanes on Greenway are open. One lane on the southbound side of Grand Avenue and two northbound lanes are also open.

DPS continues to investigate the collision.
