Ballet Arizona brings a holiday classic back to the stage.
Along with music from The Phoenix Symphony, Ballet Arizona will present “The Nutcracker” from Dec. 9-24 at Symphony Hall, 75 N. 2nd St., Phoenix.
Originally an 1892 production, “The Nutcracker” features a timeless score from Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Popular for more than 50 years, countless ballet companies stage the classic, primarily during the Christmas season. One 2017 report indicated that major U.S. ballet companies generate around 40% of their annual ticket revenues from performances of “The Nutcracker.”
Ballet Arizona will take the Symphony Hall stage in grand fashion to celebrate the joy of the season, with choreography by Ib Andersen, Ballet Arizona’s artistic director. Follow Clara’s wintry adventures as she battles mischievous mice and charms the Sugar Plum Fairy.
For more than a decade Andersen was a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet.
