“Our robust digital season will not disappoint,” said Chanel Bragg, ATC’s associate artistic director, in a prepared statement.

“Here at Arizona Theatre Company, we are committed to providing quality programming both on our stages and on our screens.”

Named amongst the top eight best unproduced Latinx plays, the award-winning, Alma is directed by Catherine María Rodríguez, who is vice president of unscripted development and programming for Lifetime television.

The story follows a working, single mom named Alma (Danaya Esperanza) who is raising her daughter, Ángel (Amandla Jahava) on “tough love, home-cooked comida and lots of prayers,” the release said, describing how on the eve of the SAT, Alma discovers that her daughter is not at home studying.

So, “a schooling and la chancla (flip flop) await Ángel at home,” along with realizing that more is at stake than just a test score, described the release.

Stage direction for Alma will be provided by Maria Amorocho. Ido Levran is the technical director and Glenn Bruner is the stage manager, according to the release.
