Assistance League of Phoenix announces grant from Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust

The Assistance League of Phoenix has received a grant totaling $20,000 from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust to support Operation School Bell.

The nonprofits signature program is delivered through its mobile dressing centers, the Delivering Dreams Buses, according to a press release.

Assistance League of Phoenix collaborates with more than 90 Title I schools throughout the year with each school selecting up to 100, children on the free or reduced lunch program, who qualify for the program. Once on board the Delivering Dream Bus, students work with volunteers to select correct sizes.

Each student receives a bunch of items valued at about $200-250 and includes two bottoms, three tops, six pair of socks, six underwear, a sweatshirt, belt, a pair of shoes, a book of their choice, and a personalized health kit full of hygiene items, the release said.

“Our agency provides over 8,500 children living in poverty with new school clothing and shoes each year,” said Aimee Runyon, Assistance League of Phoenix CEO, in a release. “We are so thankful for this grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, which will give us additional resources to reach more families in need.”

“How can you measure the importance of helping a child be adequately clothed as they head to school each day? We are pleased to support Assistance League of Phoenix in their mission to provide new, well-fitting school clothes and shoes to children with limited financial resources,” said Trustee Chair Carol Schilling, Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, in the release.

Assistance League of Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been serving the Phoenix area for nearly 60 years. The organization has 122 members and 350 community/corporate volunteers and is affiliated with national Assistance League with 122 chapters nationwide.

Last year, Assistance League of Phoenix members volunteered over 26,000 hours and raised over $1 million to serve over 20,000 children in the greater Phoenix community.
