Apache Junction library, Paws and Claws help homeless pets

Posted

For the second year, the Apache Junction Public Library has joined with Apache Junction Paws and Claws Care Center to collect donations for the city of Apache Junction’s homeless pets this holiday season.

Through Jan. 9, the library, 1177 N. Idaho Road, will collect cleaning and pet supply donations for animals at Paws and Claws, the city’s open-admission shelter, according to a release.

“The center serves a vital role in rescuing pets in need and among its many services it offers shelter and second chances for abandoned pets, none of whom are turned away. It also protects public health and safety by enforcing laws and ordinances, responding to complaints of animal abuse, and working with a dozen rescue and welfare partners to find loving homes for homeless animals,” the release states.

Want to participate, but don’t know what to donate? The center’s wish list is:

  • Kitty litter
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Canned food, cat, dog, puppy and kitten
  • Peanut butter
  • Poop bags
  • Leashes and collars
  • Nylabones
  • Kong toys
  • Cat and dog treats

If you are uncomfortable about coming into the library, 1177 N. Idaho Road, you can drop off smaller donations at the drive up or the walk up transaction box.

“Every little bit helps our pets in need. PCCC takes in about 2,000 homeless pets a year,” Lori Erlandson, Paws and Claws center manager, said in the release. “Our pets, our staff, and volunteers recognize how essential community support is and having the library rally behind us is a great way to raise awareness and much-needed supplies.”

Library hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday,
