$341K approved for Sonoqui Wash trail design-engineering plans

Posted

Kimley-Horn and Associates has been awarded $341,000 to provide design-engineering plans for a 2-mile section of multi-use trail along Sonoqui Wash from Hawes Road to Crismon Road.

Queen Creek Town Council approved a project order as part of a recent meeting’s consent agenda.

The project consists of two segments of the Queen Creek’s trail system along Sonoqui Wash --- Hawes Road to Ellsworth Road and Ellsworth Road to Crismon Road, Troy White, public works director, said in a memo to the council.

“The proposed trail improvements along the Sonoqui Wash will eventually become part of the overall trail loop system that serves walkers, runners, bicyclists and equestrians. The design will focus on providing a safe and effective trail for all types of users while adding long-term beauty to the Sonoqui Wash. A paved walking path, improved equestrian wash bottom and landscaping are all proposed,” he said.

Design of the town’s multi-use trail will tie into the existing trail just north of the Hawes Road overpass crossing the Sonoqui Wash and will follow the wash with a terminus at the Crismon Road alignment. The multi-use trail will include a 10-foot wide pavement section for walkers, bicyclists and runners along with a 6-foot wide dedicated path for equestrian users, he said.

Kimley-Horn and Associates was selected from the town’s master on-call consultant list, Mr. White said.

“We very much appreciate the opportunity to work with the Town of Queen Creek on this project,” Kimberly Carroll, senior project manager for Kimley-Horn, said in a March 6 memo to the town.
