Where does Rep. Schweikert stand on the important issues?

Posted

In my home there are two types of light switches: the circular shaped rotary dimmer switches which provide varying amounts of light depending on need and the toggle or rocker switches which provide light, or no light.

For anyone with even a cursory awareness of the important news coming out of the nation’s capital, it should be obvious that the people doing our nation’s business resemble the toggle light switch. These “togglers” (my term) switch from “on” to “off” and back again quite consistently. For example: Russia/Putin – friend or foe; Ukraine/Zelensky – friend or foe; tariffs – on or off; civil service employees – fired or rehired; and many other issues that could affect our country and each of us now and in the future.

Which brings me to the main point of this letter: What does our representative, David Schweikert, think about all of this? Our senators, particularly Senator Kelly, periodically pop up with comments and opinions about these issues, but Representative Schweikert, nada! Yes, he has online newsletters and press releases (last was Feb. 13), but with no mention of current events related to the above issues.

So, wouldn’t it be informative if Representative Schweikert had a column in all the valley community newspapers on a regular basis where he responds to questions from readers like you and me? Republicans have been told not to do town hall meetings (too dangerous?), so a newspaper column seems to be the next best thing.

With that in mind, 202-225-2190 is the Schweikert’s Washington office number and 480-946-2411 the local. Call, make your thoughts known and have a pertinent question ready for the representative and his staff. Maybe share those thoughts and questions via a letter to the editor at azopinions@iniusa.org.
