Two Scottsdale grads receive honors from cotillion

Two local graduates have received awards from Scottsdale Honors Cotillion for their educational excellence.
Mia Person received the Scottsdale Honors Cotillion Academic Award. This award includes a $500 scholarship which is given each year to the debutante with the highest overall GPA.
Eve Rennie received the Scottsdale Honors Cotillion Spirit Award. This award includes a $500 scholarship which is given each year to the debutante who throughout the year, exemplifies the ideals and spirit of Scottsdale Honors Cotillion.
Miss Person graduated from Desert Mountain High School with an overall GPA of 4.64. She also received the Fine Arts Proficiency Seal from the Arizona Department of Education. She will be attending the Honors College at Gonzaga University, studying criminal justice and dance.
Miss Rennie was nominated by the 2020 SHC Debutantes, according to a press release. She graduated from Saguaro High School with an overall GPA of 4.571. She was the Saguaro basketball captain, founder and president of Interact Club, and vice president of the National Honor Society.
Miss Rennie will be attending Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, studying human nutrition, pre-medicine, and Spanish.
Because of COVID-19, the 2020-21 Scottsdale Honors Cotillion program is being delayed.
Scottsdale Honors Cotillion, Inc. is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt public charity, which began in 1964. The purpose of Scottsdale Honors Cotillion is to recognize and honor exemplary young women for their outstanding achievements during their senior year.
Through recommendations and an interview process, upcoming senior high school women are selected on the basis of scholarship, high school extracurricular activities, and community service. During the academic school calendar, this unique college preparatory program provides leadership opportunities, improves life skills, and meets girls from other Scottsdale area high schools.
Scottsdale Honors Cotillion year culminates in the spring when the girls are presented as debutantes at the Grand Cotillion Ball. With family and friends in attendance, each girl will be recognized and formally presented to the Honorable Mayor of Scottsdale.
