The joy of art and an upcoming show in Scottsdale

Posted

OPINION – I just finished reading and enjoying Denise Colter’s opinion piece on the art community fostering connections and inspiration. And big kudos to her mother, Judi Combs, founder of Thunderbird Artists.

As a professional artist, I could not agree more, especially in her mention that it’s easy to take art for granted in our day-to-day lives. Art is more than mere decoration. Good art can stir something up within the viewer, this can be inspiration, joy, anger, sadness or other thought-provoking emotions and reactions. And there is nothing like meeting artists in person, whether it’s at a booth fair, a gallery or in the studio. That’s where the dialogue takes shape and stories are transferred from artist to audience/appreciator.

I enjoyed her how-to tips on starting an art collection, something that can be daunting (but shouldn't be) for the beginner. These interactions not only deepen one’s appreciation, but also fuel the creative economy, where the arts serve as a vital engine for growth and innovation.

On Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 8-9, myself and other artists are opening our studios for the annual Camelback Studio Tour (look up their website). Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Most studios are in south Scottsdale. Hopefully, we can meet new faces from Fountain Hills.

Again, thank you to Ms. Colter for her well-written and thoughtful opinion piece.
