Scottsdale Schools to provide meals during coronavirus closures

Posted

Despite closures, the Scottsdale Unified School District Nutrition Services Department will provide meals to families with children ages 1-18.

These services will be available as a drive-thru or walk-up service at four school sites across Scottsdale. Children do not need to be enrolled students or be part of the free or reduced meal program to receive meals, but children must be present to obtain meals.

Each child present will receive one breakfast meal for that day as well as one lunch meal for that day. Those meals are available daily throughout the district’s closure.

Schools sites include:

  • Navajo Elementary School, 7501 E. Oak St.;
  • Tavan Elementary School, 4610 E. Osborn Road in Phoenix;
  • Yavapai Elementary School, 701 N. Miller Drive; and
  • Tonalea K-8 School, 6720 E. Continental Drive.

Meal distribution sites will be set up outside in the parking lot of each school. The district is asking those driving to stay in their car and meals will be brought to the driver based on the number of children in the car.

SUSD leadership made the decision to close schools Saturday, March 14 as part of a plethora closures around the state and nation as a way to combat the spread of COVID-19. The district will close for at least two weeks and there are plans for online instruction beginning Monday, March 23.
