Scottsdale resident makes hole-in-one in honor of late father

Posted

In an effort to honor his late father, one Scottsdale local made a hole-in-one at Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club on what would have been his father's 58th birthday.

On Saturday afternoon Aug. 13,  Benjamin Haney, a 22 year-old Scottsdale resident, loaded his golf clubs into his truck stating, “I’m going to make a hole-in-one today in honor of Dad on his birthday.”

According to an email from Jennifer Haley, Benjamin’s mother, his father, who passed away on April 26 at the age of 57, made a hole-in-one on a par 4 around twenty years ago.

Aug. 13 would have been his 58th birthday — a hard day for Benjamin and his mom to be without their beloved dad and husband, Brian. The email detailed that at his mom’s insistence, Benjamin decided to take a break from his CPA exam studies to golf a round at Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club in Cave Creek in honor of his dad.

In Jennifer’s words, “It’s as though God winked," the email stated.

Benjamin used his Taylor Made 9 iron to send the ball 153 yards from the tee box into the 6th hole for his first hole-in-one. As the email explained, he loves this course, which he considers his “home course,” and now has a greater appreciation for it.
