Authorities have identified the body discovered Sunday in a Scottsdale canal.

Robert Youtz, 82, of Payson was found in the canal near Hayden and Indian Bend roads, Scottsdale police said.

Youtz was reported missing from Payson on April 18, and his vehicle was found by the Salt River Police Department in the canal on April 20.

A notification to surrounding agencies was sent out by Salt River authorities and on April 23, a passerby discovered the body in the canal and reported it to Scottsdale police, officials said.

Youtz’s body was recovered from the canal by the Scottsdale Fire Department, and Scottsdale police detectives took over the investigation and worked with the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner for identification, according to a release.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
