Scottsdale firefighters recruit volunteers for busy start of 2023

Early 2023 will bring a string of special events to the Valley, and many visitors will be looking for things to do as they wait for the Super Bowl to kick off or golfers to tee off.

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a likely destination for those eager to experience the Sonoran Desert up close, according to the Scottsdale Fire Department.

The department is partnering with the preserve staff and the conservancy to collect information and provide safety tips “in a fun, interactive way at our trailheads this season,” according to a release.

They could use some help.

The first step is to become a Scottsdale Fire Department volunteer to assist visitors in having a safe time on desert trails. Days and times when volunteers will be needed are somewhat flexible, according to the department.

Those with questions about volunteer programs, which include a variety of options, contact fire@scottsdaleaz.gov.
