Scottsdale Police Department detectives have arrested Valley resident Sean Edward Winkler, 28, on charges related to child sex trafficking.

On Sept. 14, Winkler was arrested and held in custody for child sex trafficking, attempted sexual conduct with a minor and attempted money laundering, police officials say.

Officials say Winkler allegedly agreed to pay for a sex act with a 16-year-old female, who was a Human Exploitation and Trafficking — known as HEaT — detective he met on a social media app. Winkler reportedly arrived for the meet up as agreed upon, and was arrested by Scottsdale detectives.

Police officials encourage anyone who has information about a trafficking situation to contact the HEaT department:

  • Call 480-312-3456 and leave a message 24/7
  • Email SPDheattimeline@scottsdaleaz.gov
  • Call the National Human Trafficking Hotline toll-free at 1-888-373-7888.
